NGD Squier VM Jaguar

Post by HNB »

People have seem to be loving these guitars so I figured I would give it a try. Got it on ebay new. When it arrived I did the once over. It is very nice there are a couple tiny blems, but for the cost of this guitar, it is very good. Tuners seem solid. The bridge on this one seems fine. No rattle or anything yet. Tremolo works well. Pickups sound great. Mine had an issue where the neck pickup switch was broken so I just swapped the guts from a Japanese Jaguar switch plate I had in my parts bin. The plate was slightly too big, so I mounded the parts to the Squire plate and was good to go. There was a little glob of solder in the rhythm circuit cavity that I got out because the rattle was bugging me. All in all it is really nice.

Here are the pics.

Blems (You can't feel them and they are super tiny. I am guessing some dust got on the finish and they just buffed it.)

Kind of a blem, but not really. The pickups had plastic stuck to them and for some reason, the designers thought it would be cool to put it between the claw and pickup cover so I couldn't get all the plastic wrap off. LOL

Thanks! These are a great deal. I have a lot of Japanese ones and this keeps up just fine. The larger frets are a little new to me, but the radius isn't bad.

i found my mustang to be a little clunky and the fret ends sharp

From what I remember of mine it was a bit thinner than a strat and quite comfortable to play on

Neck shape is fine. Not as chunky as a MIM neck. Fret ends could use a little work, but honestly not bad on this one.

I have the VM HH model, the neck is nice and chunky, nice big frets. I like it a lot.

Anyways, what do you mean sharp fret ends? The ends of the fingerboard or the top of the frets is not smooth (when bending for example)? In any case mine is smooth in all ways.

I've never experienced the former, but have often come across frets that are not smooth, cheap 60s and 70s guitars for example, even a newer Epiphone. Not worn, just cheap.

Nice guitar. If they put binding and blocks on it they could call it a special edition and I'd pay twice the price.

:) I am one of those strange people that doesn't really like bocks. B and D is normally good with me though. I have had one or two B and B necks and always seem to sell them. I think they look fine, but I don't bond with them for some reason. :)
