Boss OS-2, anyone tried one?

Anyone got any experience with the OS-2?

Online it says they can be bright or tricky to dial in.

I was about to grab an sd-1 again after thom’s recommendation but this OS-2 is local for £30 and didn’t know if it’s a worth a punt.

Pretty sure the other guitarist in my first "proper" band used one of these as his main distortion for a while. Pretty unremarkable sounding, but inoffensive and a decent enough basic overdrive. Kind of fizzy maybe? But that could just have easily been down to the rest of his rig, rather than the OS-2.

Used to be my main driver for years before replacing it with 2 Carl Martin pedals. It is a pedal with no surprises and does its job well, but has certain limitations, in the sense that it will sound most of the time like the classic Boss pedals of that era.

It is quite creamy I would say and eventhough indeed slightly fizzy and bright, you can tame the trebles with the tone knob. It went well with the AC30 and the mix between OD/Dist can give you few different sounds.

At 30£ it is a fair deal.

I had one a while back that I got for cheap to flip ages ago and I remember it sounded pretty good. It is the pedal Joey Santiago used to use in classic era Pixies.

Seems to get some conflicting reviews, some love it some hate it. Seems people are hoping it’s the best of both a ds-1 and an sd-1 and then not living up to either of those pedals.

The demos mostly sound pretty good on the most part, just that it’s nothing groundbreaking.

It’s still for sale, so might give it a go. Could always flip it on the bay for a profit maybe if I don’t like it.

Worth a shot as it’s local. As you said, you can flip it if no good, and you can still get SD-1s pretty cheap.

Well, what an anti climax.

Agreed to meet the seller as it was on Facebook market place. Went round to their house and it was a teenager about 16-17 selling it. Asked to try it to make sure it works and he suddenly gets very hesitant to let me try it out, kept repeating it works fine. Eventually lets me try it with this bc rich pointy guitar and some no name practice amp.

It does nothing, check all the connections and power. He then informs me that it can’t take power through the 9v input as he rammed the wrong supply into it and it knackered the socket. After powering it through a battery, they’re was a massive low hum whenever the pedal is engaged, like a ground loop. Tried straight guitar to amp and that was fine.
Guessing he’s partial fried it when using the wrong supply.

I walk away, he’s a bit pissed but understood in the end.

The fucker wanted to sell you a broken thing. By the way Behringer makes a clone of OS2 which goes under the name of OD300, I bet you'll be able to find it used for even a bit less than the price the prick asked for that OS2. But TBH if i was shopping for a Behringer pedal I'd buy their Super Fuzz. It's just that good.

I’ve got a lead on a £25 SD-1, thankfully not the same seller or in the same area.
