New Behringer synths

Apparently Behringer are jumping the gun on these due to the ongoing chip shortages. The designs are finalised but production is still waiting on parts.

Also, the prices are kind of insane; $99 for the Pro VS and $49 for the JP-4000.

Both of these synths are adapting sounds and concepts from specific synths, the Prophet VS and the Roland JP-8000, with some differences. But they do this in a way that competes (or complements) directly with Korg's Volca and Monotron ranges, especially considering the prices. So the Pro VS fills a wavetable-shaped gap that many Volca fans have been asking Korg to fill themselves in a form factor that looks faaaaairly similar in a way, while the JP-4000 is like a Monotron on steroids.

If that is the case, I wonder if we'll see more synths in basically identical casings in the future?

These look fun. I’m hoping for some proper reviews soon.

It’s crazy that the semiconductor shortage has got so bad that Behringer actually have a load of stuff ready to manufacture rather than just sticking up a boatload of renders.

Did you see that they’ve finished their CS80 clone voice board now? I wonder how it will be received cos it’s a proper weird synth.

There's a (3 voice?) Jupiter one too:

There's also a follow up to the Neutron:

Possibly more interesting to me personally is the bit they slipped into the Jupitery announcement:
Behringer wrote:Many of you shared with us how much you love the magic sound of this magic synth. While we’re also working on a full size synthesizer, here is our affordable mini version with the authentic circuitry and sound, but accessible to everyone.
The product development is completed and once we receive the necessary chips, we’ll ship this marvel. Suggested price is US$ 99 so all of you now have access to this beautiful sound.

Analog Polyphonic Synthesizer with 3 VCOs, Multi-Mode VCF, Arpeggiator and 16-Step Motion Sequencer

• Portable analog polyphonic and programmable synthesizer
• Inspired by the classic Jupiter synthesizer from the ‘80s
• 27 touch-sensitive keys for great playability
• Pure analog signal path based on authentic VCO, VCF and VCA designs
• VCOs with 4 selectable saw, triangle, square and pulse waveforms
• Pulse width modulation for additional sound creation
• Vintage multi-mode filter with resonance for desirable classic sounds
• Filter switchable between 2- and 4-poles for additional sound creation
• Extensive play modes featuring poly, unison and arpeggiator
• 16-step motion sequencer with 8 memory slots and recording of knob movements
• LFO with saw, triangle, square and random waves for vibrato, tremolo and wah-wah effects
• Voltage Controller Amplifier with a dedicated ADSR envelope

i shouldn't be looking here, ahman...seems fun.

i'm still eyeing that deepmind 12 but modular is calling too...as it usually goes...

These little ones are like a take on the volcas...

With all pedalboard and powering things....seems fun to put together a mini synths board powered.

Oh shit. There's some fucking great things in the pipeline.

A shrunk down Jupiter for $99 that will play ball with my volcas is an autobuy.

MOAR.

So this is by the guy who designed the Monotribe for Korg, and features two analog synth voices and a drum machine in the new Behringer Not-A-Volca Spul format.

Some sites are actually reporting the prices of these as £74 which I imagine is a straight conversion of dollar to sterling, which is insane if true, but even if they end being a dollar/pound sign swap and end up being £99, they're still mindbogglingly good value for money.

They sort of look brilliant, insofar as they are crazy feature rich.

They also sort of look kinda shite, in so far as they look shite.

It's a fantastic crosspoint of design considerations

"How fully functioned can we make these synths, whilst making them look like they came free with cereal in the ?90s?"

Too bad i have a descendant vibrato on order or i'd be getting hold of some of these neat synthies. Like in a 'gotta catch 'em all' kind of way. Shouldn't. ..... :P

I blame the people who re-manufactured the Stylophone with additional features (Stylophone GenX-1). It looks to me as if that's Behringer's inspiration.

One of the reasons I like the Volcas was the way that they just kind of decided "it's just going to be a box with a faceplate." and I thought that was basically as much actual thought they'd put into them.

Seeing these, with the slope down to the key bed and the almost haphazard layout of the knobs, seemingly wherever they can fit them, they make the Volcas look like a piece of art.

Anyway, more importantly, DO YOU READY FOR MOAR?

So people asked Behringer if they could knock up a power bank/mixer combo for all their mini synths and just pooped this out.

Apparently just a mockup so far but that's kind of cool if they actually do it (also has reverb!).
