gun-stang was pretty epic, though i can't imagine it'd be comfortable playing

the black w/ gold stripe is cool, and i'm less taken by the blue w/ orange. i could refin either of them, sure, but the thing is i've wanted the orange comp stang (with the hardware and electronics of a mustang) since rodvonbon showed up with a baker's dozen of them (or however many it was he had). i didn't have the means to propose a buy back then when they were about half the street value they are now, but my understanding is he sold most or all of them off. i could always go the ishibashi route i suppose, but i've never tried that.

Just buy one of his duh

i pm'd, so if i hear from him, i'll explore what's there in that conversation.

i did call warmoth a few minutes ago, and they can do everything i want with the matching headstock and comp stripe. they can't do the mustang pickups cos they don't sell them. that's fine, i'm okay getting the pickups, covers, pots, knobs, switches, and wiring and just handling that myself.

EDIT: as i recall, they don't do the decals either, so i'll have to pick up those myself as well. actually kinda excited to do this. just got my tax refund yesterday, so i have cash to make it happen.

got the control plate, wire/pots/switches, knobs, input, and robroe covers from various sellers on reverb. pickups are a pair of SLP124 Single Slick "56" Flat Pole alnicos from GFS. still need to get strap buttons (prolly locking schallers), strap, decal, and a case. the body and neck should be here late may / early june.

I don’t see a comp stripe on that order sheet....

Either way, very excited to see how this turns out!

had to add that and the matching headstock to the order notes... don't even know what they're charging me for it yet! =]

You probably did your research but I searched warmoth comp Mustang and found this thread about an LPB on another forum. Looks better than the Bullet Mustang stripe at least

hadn't seen that thread, but the guy i spoke with yesterday (spike) said they do it all the time, so that was encouraging.

I didn't get why they did that and read the thread again. They aimed to make a copy of TEH KURTZ lefty mustang, since the decal is facing the other way on a lefty headstock, they just flipped the fucking letters on the righty guitar they built.

OK haha

That's nuts you ordered it in basswood.

(could make a squirrel meme for this, not sure it would be that funny)

I'm looking forward to the throaty tone wood meshing with the snappy sbortscale and alnico siingles for sure!

Only thing about basswood is it's pretty soft and dings easily (at least in my experience - Squier CV P-Bass)

Definitely familiar with that aspect... my jagstang was basswood and it dinged and dented even in the gig bag. Got a hsc for it just in case.

this morning i ordered what i think is the last part i'll need to complete the project, the decal from http://luthierdecals.com/.

i will post a final set of photos in this thread once it is all assembled, but ima start a new project thread in the other forum for the actual process.
