Absolutely, the "weight = sustain, = GREAT TONE" thing is such utter horseshit. Give me something that feels like an extension of me (fnarrr) as the player, not a wooden prosthetic 3rd leg. That VM Mustang w/CIJ Jag neck I have is is 7.5lbs, and feels like a phantom limb, effortless.

I have a couple of boat anchors. My EGC is probably around the 10lb mark, but IÃ¢â‚¬â„¢m ok with that as I love it. I have a 78 Tele that I inherited though thatÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s like 11.5lb. ThatÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s fucking bullshit.

Nah mate. It's by no means a perfect guitar for me - the weight and tall frets are a slight bugbear - but it does sound great and I just love me all dem switches.

I guess after playing vintage-style frets for 24-odd years, it's just what I'm accustomed to?

If you're used to making a lot of contact with the fretboard (not the case with tall frets), one might fret a bit harder to compensate? Fuck knows. Just a personal preference, like everything.

Rob, you talk a big game for someone who can't get his head around capos- even Noel Gallagher gets that one.

Yuh-huh.

Just get your nut, action and neck relief DIALLED THE HECK IN, else your capo or finger (fleshcapo) is likely to bend everything sharp in relation to the open string.

Totally with you on this to begin with Doog, I found the tall frets on my Jazzy really weird and I definitely didnÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t like them after decades f playing vintage frets. Then I got used to them, and thatÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s mainly because played my Jazzy almost exclusively for 6 months. It still felt weird whenever I went back to it after playing another guitar though until very recently. Think IÃ¢â‚¬â„¢m finally at the point where I donÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t mind switching between the two...after about 7 months.

Affinity strats are usually super light, and they have small necks too for those who are into vintage sized A/B Mustang necks

Yep. Had a couple early 2000s ones and they had the same profile as my old CIJ jaguar one.

Don't mind the tall frets myself. Don't really notice when switching guitars.

What's Fenders logic behind introducing them anyway? Like middle ground between medium jumbos and vintage style perhaps.

I just weighed my three because of reasons (long story), and here's what I got:

Epiphone Les Paul SL: 2.8kg
Fender Lite Ash Tele: 3.9kg
Squier Affinity Tele: 3.4kg

Pretty much what I would have expected. I don't trust my cheapo digital scale to figure out more than one decimal place, so I've rounded.
