NGD Squier JAGMASTER 2008

Bought this beauty last week.
The weight is 7.2 lbs.

I love the bulky neck and the sound of the pickups.
They sound similar to DiMarzio Super Distortion.

Some info on the pickups from the Seymour Duncan Website:

Duncan Designed Pickups
The Duncan Designed line of pickups was started in 1995 at the request of several of our larger original equipment manufacturer (â€œOEMâ€�) customers who wanted to offer a pickup tied in to the Duncan identity on their mid-level instruments. While USA-made Seymour Duncan and Basslines pickups are intended to fit on instruments with list prices over US$800, the Korean-built Duncan Designed pickups are intended for OEM use on guitars and basses with retail prices between US$300 and $800. The Duncan Designed club members include Squier, Jackson, ESP LTD, Schecter Diamond Series, Daisy Rock, Hamer, Aria Pro II and Samickâ€™s Greg Bennett series.

There are currently several humbuckers available in the Duncan Designed range, each of which is neck or bridge position-calibrated and was modeled after a USA-built model.

HB-103
The HB-103 was patterned after the SH-6 Duncan Distortionâ„¢ set. It uses ceramic magnets and powerful coil windings to deliver a high output tone with lots of crunch and harmonics.
The bridge pickup is Trembucker-spaced.

I've danced back and forth over buying one of these forever. It's always been some bizarre naive preconceived dealbreaker, like the 9.5" radius or strat trem. That's silly. I should get one.

And i watched some relic videos on youtube before.

A small town outside of Tampa called Brandon. Dumbtown is what myself and a few friends call it, because that's more or less what it is.

Will do once I get around to it, I've got a few other projects lined up first. But I'll be sure to get some good photos

I bought some chinese Alnico II pickups on eBay.
I paid 25 Euros for both (ca. 30 Dollars).

I know the Seymour Duncan Alnico II pickups and i must admit these chinese pickups are equal.
They are waxed and have 5 cables (like Duncans).
I put them in my old Jagmaster and i'm realy surprised.
Great sound clean an distorted.
Much better than the original Duncan Distortion pickups.

My new mod:

As i barely use the neck pickup i decided to remove it.
Because i use a lot of Distortion and Fuzz pedals i tried to mod the bridge pickup to parallel mode.
More highs and more open sound.

I had a Alnico 2 pickup installed and wanted some more output so i put back the Duncan Distortion (a black one) also in parallel mode.

Result: much more snappier, brighter and more power.

Lika a Jagmaster mixed with an Esquire so i call it "JAGSQUIER"

Good to see someone enthusiastically modding one of the older models, takes me back...

I like Jagmasters, they make sense. Cool shape with basic electronics and hardware, at an affordable price. An excellent modding platform as well.
Had a Vista years ago and then one of the later black models.

Love the tape covering the holes, really gives it that ratty mod aesthetic. Looks great with every update
