Whats a good one? preferably free and as easy to use as possible as this is a first for me?

I use reaper so something that works well with that is essential

doesn't need to be overly pro but looking at doing something more than just four on the floor monotony

Will be watching intently, as this is relevant to my interests.

Not free but EZ Drummer 2's pretty good. I use it with Reaper.

I've heard good stuff about it but it's a bit too spendy for me I'm afraid. Anyone got any more ideas?

Do you want a stand alone program or a vst drum machine?

I honestly do not know what that means. I'm guessing a standalone programme????

If you get a free daw like reaper then there are a shed load of free vst instruments.

What type of drum sounds are you after & is it just for home recording?

Yeah just for home stuff for Definate but would like to get some "nice sounds" pop-py/rocky sorta stuff

If it's not already blatantly obvious I am COMPLETELY computer/IT inept so please forgive me!

if you are happy with a DAW (as I said Reaper is free and really good) then take a look here for some free drum machine vsts - http://www.pluginboutique.com/categorie ... chine/free or buy a copy of computer music, they have lots of great free software on their cover cds

Or do you have garageband? the drums in that are normally good and you could use drum loops in there as well?

you can also get some good apps on your phone. I've got a good one on my iphone called DM1.

I love using Figure on my phone and iPad. So cheap, so easy to use, and sounds so good. Love Propellerheads.

With a little ingenuity you can dump the sounds on your Mac.
