Fat neck?!

Post by Conrad B Something »

I need a guitar with a fat fucking neck. Any companies make a guitar with a fat neck nowadays? I mean like a half a baseball bat fat.
Vintage is expensive and unreliable.

Anybody?

What he said.

Also, the 90's American Standard Tele's were nice and meaty.

The MIJ Tokais (especially the SGs) have very fat necks too. Bajas can vary a bit, too, so play before you buy.

The early 90's Japanese Fender Strats (50's and 60's models I think) have pretty chunky necks with a lovely soft V to them

Sounds like I'd love it. My Gordon Smith has a very fat neck - Benecol specced it to be pretty big when he ordered it.

My SG has a pretty big neck, as does my 60s JM.

i was in school with a guy that was dedicated to building fat neck guitars. 1 inch was the smallest. the biggest he made was a strat that was like 2.5 inches, the neck exceeded the neck pocket so it had to be cut out, very odd looking, i couldn't play them, one, they were too big, and two, he couldn't build a guitar or finish one to save his life.

My Gibson reissue 59 melody maker, has a rather substantial neck... and sounds awesome, the paint job is shite though.
