Matamps

Post by Bacchus »

Hello all,

I've been discussing the possibility of this Christmas featuring the exchange of various life changing gifts, one of which might be a matamp. Does anyone know if they offer any combos at all at the minute? Dream amp would probably be a king street classic our similar in 212 but I'd entertain the possibility of a 112.

Golden rule of Matamp is: phone Geoff.

It's part of the Matamp buying/ownership experience. He'll chew your ear off, then build you an amp that'll make your trousers flap.

Not sure we can afford a new one but I suppose a phone call and a chat wouldn't hurt.

I was surprised how (relatively) cheap a new one was. Admittedly, this was a few years back, but they're pretty competitive.

The Hookworms bassist rang up to order a bass cab but the guy at Matamp (think it was Geoff as mentioned earlier) told him he had one with the exact same specs returned to him, had never left the owner's house, he sold it to my friend for half price. He may have some old stock or returns laying around

I want a Matamp SO MUCH. The general reaction I've seen after extensive Googling is "ring Geoff." He sounds a bit of a grumpy old git at first but is actually a real pro and can arrange something truly special that sounds awesome. As soon as I get the bill for my extension cab paid off I'm going to phone them up to arrange a trip to t'mill.

If it's any help, I was quoted just over a grand for a GT40 head when I e-mailed then a few months back, and they're selling some of the little four-watters for £350 on their clearance sale if that's anything to go by. Basically, they pretty much match the prices of an equivalent Orange, give or take. Plus they're hand-made individually. I've seen relatively little online in terms of reviews but what is said is very positive overall.

I spent 3 years in Huddersfield and had no idea that's where Matamp were based. I'm kicking myself I didn't drop by, or make an effort to get a matamp when I had disposable income.

15.Pre-owned Carlsboro TC100 valve head (as used by Bill Nelson) from early 80s.
£200
Looks like a bargain.

Also (and I'm correcting myself here, too): it's Jeff, not Geoff.

(I have a friend called Jeff, and this sort of thing is important to him).

Thanks for that Tim, else I'd have properly embarrassed myself on this phone conversation we're going to have.

I noticed this one for sale few days back. It is more of a rawk amp though.

Found a 1224 mkii second hand locally. It's only a head and it's probably more amp than I need but it's an absolute dream amp. Sort of fancy a combo for some reason but it's something to think about.
