Tried this same pedal the other day.... came to pretty much the same assumption ...

Nice, not hugely versatile, nor enough push in the gain dept. ... still.. with the right guitar and amp and think it could be really nice.

I reckon it'd work better with buckers... :(

I like it, but like most 'marshall in a box' pedals as you put it, there is not a lot of 'chug', y'know, like when you palm mute, you don't really get any sound.

Needs a bit more beef for me.

Is this thing anything like the Distortion +? I had a clone D+ but it wasnt my cup of tea for distortion.

This pedal (well, the Distortion III) and the GT-OD sound pretty much the same. I tried them both out a little while ago when I was buying a new overdrive, and the only difference in sound I noticed was that the GT-OD sounded good with high gain and low gain, whereas the Dist III sounded good with lots of gain and kind of awful without. The GT-OD is kind of more expensive though...

I've never used a Distortion+ but a friend of mine uses one as his main pedal and manages to get a fairly decent Lovvers-esque sound from it.

The Distortion + is a much different beast, more of a fuzzy light distortion than an overdrive/distortion.

It is basically Sugar in a box. As in the band, not the refined sugarcane. The Zakk Wylde Distortion is very similar to the MXR Distortion III aswell, just a couple of component swaps. MXR are cheeky monkeys.

Very cool sounding pedal. Just a shame about the gay tribal things.

I don't mind them. Makes it stand out on stage a little more. I hate playing dark stages with my russian muff - can't see the damn thing

it's not tribal. it's like custom pin-striping on vintage hot rods (e.g. von dutch).
