new tom delonge starcaster controversy

Post by rahbro »

New Tom Delonge sig starcaster came out yesterday. its 1200 bucks. its made in the same Indonesian factory that the Squier CV starcaster is made.

no pickguard. 3 less knobs, 1 less pickup.

is this a 400 dollar guitar with an 800 dollar fender sticker on the headstock? and if it is, this has to be the most expensive fender sticker that fender has ever put on a guitar.

one other thing that i noticed is that the F holes on the body of the guitar on the CV are bound in creme and the Delonge has no F-hole binding

Indonesian Fender? That's something new. Don't get me wrong, I personally think that modern Squiers are on par with any Fender. But charging Fender money for a Squier guitar is a scam.

don't get me wrong, i love my bronco.

but tdong's "signature" with guitars is basically taking off pickups and pickguards...

On the one hand, I think that it's sort of shitty. On the other hand, Blink 182 were a band for stupid people who didnt like music but wanted to look cool. If Fender wants continue to give those people what they want, now that they're in their forties and have disposable income, it's hard to feel sympathy.

True mall punks would buy a Squier affinity Starcaster for $200, rip out all but the bridge volume and splice a Duncan invader in with electrical tape, then spray paint a bunch of brown all over it randomly like Delonge’s moon dust guitar.

Way more cred.

It's definitely overpriced (what signature model isn't, in fact what Fender model in general isn't??) but I've gotta say I do actually like this visually.

Also, not convinced Rawbro has a leg to stand on when it comes to criticising someone for doing the exact same mods on all their guitars regardless of the model.

🤪🤪🤪

For single pickup weirdness, I'd hit this Hazzard by Sturner.

pretty cool looking. I'd def be whacking my hand off that switch though. I'd just get rid of it.

i generally keep my hand close to the bridge while strumming, but not everyone does for sure. doesn't say what the 3-way does in the specs, but i have to imagine it's split-bridge-coil/both-coils/split-neck-coil; i suppose you could also do series versus parallel and lose either the bridge or neck coil isolation. pretty versatile.

not sure why the didn't put the switch near the knobs like they do on the other models, though. they do offer custom builds it looks like... starting at $1,800.
