New guitar project

Post by mickie08 »

A friend of mine started building guitars again pretty heavily now that he is retired and offered to build me one at cost basically. So its a telemster style. Will have a qtr pounder in the bridge and a tv jones in neck. reversed strat headstock. reversed tele switch plate. Gold hardware. aged pearl pickguard for now (eventually likely a anodized gold one) Layered wood body (purpleheart top, maple center, mahogany back. He does some carving in the bodies so the layers of wood will be visible. ebony fretboard with flamed maple neck. Should be different at the least. :)

Looking forward to seeing this. I think it will look brilliant if it's just heavily rounded so that you can see the different woods, but I can't (yet) see a way of incorporating the holes that won't look terrible.

may be. For the most part, I'm just letting a friend do his thing on it. May end up weird looking. I am OK with that. I rarely even play electric outside of the house. Pretty much 95% acoustic

I think it will be weird and cool. I just can't picture it yet. That's what I mean by saying I'm looking forward to it, not shitting on your new guitar!

I would have done the rear ones a little smaller and a bit closer to the rear of the body but it will be interesting.

A friend had an old 60's purple sparkle jazzmaster with the anodized golds pickguard (what I will eventually find for this one as well, but aged pearl to start). that was the idea but to use purpleheart as the top. The middle is maple and bottom is mahogany. It will be interesting visually at the minimum.

Here is where it is at currently. I think I would have put the downward carvings angled a bit more towards the rear of the guitar to follow that line, but I am pretty much letting him have free reign on that stuff. I just like supporting friends who are out building stuff. Ne curious to see what it looks like when it is together. More importantly, see how it feels/sounds. Will look nice hanging next to the other 2 I had built by my musician friends.

The neck pocket reminds me of my Toronado GT.

Definitely funky and a little gaudy. And I do think the holes he carved are a little too big. But no one can say its boring or plain. Well they can......

Eventually guard will likely get swapped to a anodized one. Maybe..

Do you know the weight?

Honestly for what it is, I like it how it is, I think the pearl is a nice compliment to the gold. Anodized might be too much of a good thing. But looks cool either way, definitely a conversation piece at the very least
