I'll give you a free advice and you can later send me a cheque for 500 Ls. Build a shortscale bass out of a strat. I've just measured, using a generic square bass bridge you can build a 27"-ish bass. It'll be a pain in the ass to make it, but someone like Cooter could do it. Then you'll end up paying him, paying me my 500 Ls and with quite a unique small but kicking butts package of a bass.

Joking aside I'd like such a bass for myself. (Dear Fender, if you're gonna steal this idea, you're sending me a cheque for 5000 British Ls)

There is someone selling exactly what you've just described for 60 Ls about an hour's drive from me, as it happens: http://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instru ... 1376484347

Wow, didn't expect. You could try it just for laughs. However it's a bass built on strat's scale, the owner just put a bass bridge, nut and 4 tuners. I was thinking more of a bass where you move the bridge back to the bottom of the body, take old frets out, glue the fret slots, mark and saw new fret slots for 27" scale and install new frets. Ideally, the holes for strat trem should be filled and the body itself refinished into a "my neighbour's old decrepit fence" color. Or sunburst

Get a bronco bass. Maybe not that one if the covers or holes will bother you but they pop up used for decent prices all the time. I got mine for $75.
