Questions On Twin Reverb RI

Post by DiAmoroso »

I'm sure there must be at least a few of you here pretty knowledgeable on amps. So about a month ago I bought a TRRI from the bass player of my band, ($350, steal!), but I've noticed it's a bit different than the TRRI I had years ago. The main thing being that my last Twin couldn't go past 2 or 3 on the volume without destroying ear drums. This one I just got (not sure the year, but should be the exact same amp I think), I'm comfortably playing at 5 to 6. No complaints, it sounds great and I don't need it any louder, but I was curious at why. I found recently that the tubes are Groove Tubes 6L6-GE, which I don't think are the stock ones. So my question is if that alone is enough to cut the volume so drastically, or if there may be other mods done? I see nothing else that stands out, but I'm far from an amp tech.

Not sure, but my ‘72 also needs to be at 5-7 for stage volumes.
