Behringer Analog Synths

Post by Mages »

These new Behringer synths look really cool. They are Juno 106 based.

The DeepMind 12

And there is a DeepMind 6 that looks to be the same except for 6 less voices and one less octave keyboard (oh, and no WiFi). The 12 is $1000, the 6 is $700.

Behringer have also bought the patent for some oberheim synths and have successfully cloned the chips, very exciting if they manage to get it in a reasonable $$ bracket

I think the Oberheim synths are out of copyright so anyone can clone them. Behringer are also bringing out a clone of the Moog Model D for £300. The original version from Moog is like £3749. He was typically Uli Behringer about the whole thing and basically just said that the Moog is totally overpriced as there's not even a couple of hundred dollars worth of components in them.

The chip cloning thing has been going on for a while. They also bought a company (Cool Audio) that makes versions of the Curtis chips so they're hitting the ground running with that. Moog and the makers of the Curtis chips are fuming because they're not going to be able to keep on selling shit at such an inflated price.

In related news Moog recently announced they were discontinuing the model D...

Here is a video with actual A?B comparison of the £300 Behringer D and the Moog version. The dude talks about all the controls and whatnot for ages. The sound comparison starts around the 14 minute mark.
