I've been trying to up my game in the knob making dept

Post by h8mtv »

I have kind of jumped from doing stomp box knobs over to doing more stuff for guitars and amps. I am really enjoying putting stuff in knobs. Any ideas of other cool shit I can drop in there? I might get some fish hooks at the store later...

something simple like glitter would be good... or small broken bits of glass with a coloured transparent resin?

They are seriously cool. Are you UK based? I'd like to order a couple if so, I reckon postage would be too high from USA though.
In terms of what else to put in them, I'd say small shards of different coloured broken glass, glitter and other shiny colourful stuff.
Have you ever thought about making them custom order with the customers face in a little photo in there or something? Or like an all round head thing so the knob is like twisting your own head? That would be cool

You could probably make a killing if you replicated the rickenbacker stove top knob in a scaled down size, I've seen a lot with the 4 stove top knobs but with the standard ric knob for the 5th knob

I like the idea of rethinking the Rick knobs. I have some white Mustang knobs that I really like. Replicas with believable black and brown color options could kick ass. I don't remember what you are using for plastic or resin, but it would be great to have a range of browns, blacks, and creams that look vintage.

The untapped market would be to match knobs with Fender paint colors. Fiesta knobs could work on a Fiesta or black guitar. Existing third party plastic knobs are too bright and cheap looking.

For suspended objects I can imagine using realistic spiders, bugs, or scorpions. Real ones might be gross, but you can get all sort of toys. Fruit Loops could look pretty funny.

When I was a kid, the guy next door would make paper weights out of clear resin. He would press clovers in a book then set the in the resin. I remember him doing a 4 leaf one that my brother found.
