I used to have a Transtube Envoy 110 (gray stripe, USA made) that I really liked. I could get a ton of different sounds on it. Lately I use a Vox AV30 as my practice amp. It's got a single tube as sort of a line level power amp. It's a really nice sounding amp. It's analog modeling, which I find pre...

Found it and got it for my bandmate five years ago, she's pretty much in love with this guitar, almost never wants to play anything else. Never seen another one like this.

Oh, you're right. No f hole and Gretsch style humbuckers. That guitar is totally nice.

But yeah, I agree. I think it's a great guitar, but I think you can do better in trade value.

I've handled a couple of those new ibanez talman style basses. They look great but wow, they felt horrible, and weighed like 500 pounds. A real letdown, especially considering the features on board. They seem to be all over the place in weight. I looked on Sweetwater and they can go from anywhere t...

Speaking of one offs, I really like the all-black MG69 DP MH which has a 3-way switch, no slide switches, and two DiMarzio pickups. Hyde from L'Arc~en~Ciel always plays his and I love it.

I really like pickups with A2. The Tonerider Rocksong is an ever so slightly overwound A2 pickup, one of my favorites, and quite inexpensive, too. If you prefer a lower output pickup, there are many A2 vintage winds out there, but I find a strong bridge to be a good thing.

Re: Kamehameha!

Now I'm just imagining Paul physically floating while playing guitar. Like slowly levitating on the stage as he turns Super Saiyajan Rose while manhandling the trem. And if he's using a contoured body, and it truly becomes one with him and he turns into Pautang. ....I watch too much Dragon Ball Z. ...

Cool! Yeah, I think one of the benefits of having the pickup far away from the strings, too, is that it naturally gives the pickup a more muted, full bodied sound, which probably means you need the tone knob less. Had you installed the pickup much closer to the strings, you'd probably find that you ...

So far out of the research I have done I am leaning towards the '65. I don't care about body contours (I think the slab body is much sexier anyways) as I have no belly whatsoever at this point in my life and I tend to play my guitars very high up on my torso. The better pickups sounds like a big pl...

I've had two '65 RI, one '69 RI (old, when they had gappy saddles), one KC, and three '73 RI now. I think it's hard to argue anything other than '65 RI being the best guitar out of the lot. That said, I only kept my 73s, so you can see that it's not all about absolute quality after all, especially w...

Cool! I hadn't looked at this forum in a while, so I didn't see this until just now, but really cool! I actually did drill my pickguard for pickguard screws on my HK. Pretty simple. The cutout was also a bit too small for a Duncan pickup so I had to file it a bit, too. I believe DiMarzio pickups are...

That said, I can give you a quick overview. Red is hottest. However, it doesn't really sound like a humbucker, it just sounds overwound. I'd imagine it's really good for distortion, but it's not for me. Love it as a bass pickup. Blue is very nice. Works nicely in all positions. Purple was my favorit...

I don't really use them anymore. The only one I still use regularly is the Red one on my Bronco Bass, which I still love and would never change on that instrument. I really liked Lace Sensors for a long time but I think I just kind of grew different tastes. For a long time, I didn't really gig all t...

I agree with that in theory, but also, a lot of players who play relatively clean will often stay in the same zip code of guitars. I think most players will make the guitar sound like themselves, but dislike guitars that somehow make that difficult.

Crazy. Completely unshielded. There are several options for surface mounted pickups. Rick style pickups, Lace makes one, the USAB. You don't have to route for a pickup if you don't want to. My favorite way of getting those back covers is to use the shower/mirror pressure cup things you get at bath s...

Johnny Alien wrote:Honestly I always thought he used Laces. I never paid attention to these humbucker singles.
DiMarzio makes fantastic ones. They are, in my mind, absolutely the best at having various hum canceling singles of every different flavor.

But nothing sounds like a Lace.
