Re: Old Gretsch Synchromatic Junior Jet

Never played one but I remember when they were produced. Most of them had a sunburst finish and I believe the specs said the body was mahogany.

That's one sexy SG, NickD. Are those nylon saddles or am I mistaken?

Re: Always on pedals, a popular option?

Caline Pure Sky is a great Timmy clone. Mosky makes Obsessive Overdrive in a nano format although all Mosky pedals are built from regular electric components(not SMD) and can be modded. Both pedals are dirt cheap.

Re: Always on pedals, a popular option?

I do what Bacchus wrote - a Timmy clone that goes into an OCD clone into a solid state amp. Nothing beats OCD at emulating a tube amp imo. It lacks definition/transparency on its own but Timmy brings it out. Timmy is probably the best OD to stack with other ODs.

Re: Mustang Bass

You could hire me to buy you obnoxiously expensive pedals with vintage military surplus LEDs in them. Then when you play we'll be all nodding appreciatively to the rhythm of your Led Zeppelin riffs.

Re: Boss OS-2, anyone tried one?

The fucker wanted to sell you a broken thing. By the way Behringer makes a clone of OS2 which goes under the name of OD300, I bet you'll be able to find it used for even a bit less than the price the prick asked for that OS2. But TBH if i was shopping for a Behringer pedal I'd buy their Super Fuzz. ...

Re: How hard is it to paint a guitar with poly?

It's beautiful, congrats! I have no idea how to paint a guitar. I think many years ago Euan wrote a short tutorial on how to do it. Matching the colour might be tricky I guess. Also they will be two different finishes and think they'll be aging differently. Even if you match the current colour they ...

Re: Boss OS-2, anyone tried one?

It's a great pedal and is underrated, hence the low price.

Re: Guild Surfliner project...need advice

I had a Squier Bullet Strat with a "used" stamp on the neck and the serial number also gouged out that I had bought off ebay too. It was perfectly functional, though the body weighed a ton. You can probably check if the neck is finished at all by taking one of the tuners off and see around...

Re: Guild Surfliner project...need advice

Looks really nice, especially the guitar-amp combo! In my experience, what people tend to call unfinished neck on "budget guitars" is a regular, thick finish done with matte lacquer. It can sometimes reach like a couple of millimetres in thickness and people would still be calling them unf...

Re: '99 Stratocaster pickup query

Not really connected to this, but there was a batch of made in Korea Fender Strats at some time. I remember some Fender owners having a conniption because of it, after having spent a small fortune on a Fender there were Korean Fenders circling around. But those had a Made in Korea inscription on the...

Re: pictures of your gear here

Yesterday I pulled my solid state amp from its dusty corner and some dirt pedals, played them for a while and they sounded heavenly. I hadn't changed a thing, plugged in today and it all sounded like utter shit. Speaking of perception bias based on the mood.

Re: pictures of your guitars here

It's funny that at this point your guitar is just a tad younger than the model it was "an import rip off" of. I mean it's almost as vintage as 70s fenders, and it's probably better made. Nice guitar, strong Keith vibes.
