Re: pictures of your gear here

more often i've seen players constantly turning their guitar volume up despite it clearly being up all the way, like an OCD/nervous tick. Oh damn yeah I absolutely do this. Obsessively re-tuning after every song as well, although I'm trying to get out of that habit. every goddamn time Feel like I s...

Fuck, I love that colour combo!

I also now want a crazy expressionist Tele bridge pickup with the polepieces laid out like this:

Re: SoCal Amp repair?

It's most likely that the previous owner (or whoever) touched the tube directly, leaving GROSS SKIN OILS on it, which will cause that 'hotspotting', I forget the proper term. That, potentially in combo with an overly-keen bias setting, can take a tube out; those things get hot, Watts.

Re: SoCal Amp repair?

Obviously it depends on the amp, but it can just literally be a case of putting a multimeter on a few points (that are generally accessible and not buried) and moving a similarly accessible trimpot until both tubes show the right reading. I did this on my Marshall DSL50 many times as a relatively cl...

Re: Sans drummer help

Good shout, I've thought about going down this route as a guitar amp for ages; really just need a MAKE LOUD BOX with a decent EQ and not back-breakingly hefty. I actually just plugged straight in today and quite liked the sound with the gain pull pot on. People really sleep on solid state distortion...

Re: Sans drummer help

Out of interest I am going to try plugging my behringer sansamp pedal into it to see how it sounds with guitar. But not expecting much. I mean, if it's got speaker simulation on it, it's designed to go a flat frequency, PA kinda situation; keyboard amps aren't really anything but a wee little PA

Re: AI Mastering

Sounds real good, man! I'd personally only say it's missing a bit of upper highs ( The Sparkle Region ) to help the shiny pop vibes even further, but it's totally listenable! I guess it does largely depend on what you're putting into Landr's matchingmachine; I was just messing around with Logic's 'M...

Re: AI Mastering

I tried Distrokid's 'AI Mastering' when uploading a Checkmate Atheists song for my ol' drummer James: masta.png It was literally 2 sliders that just seemed to add more low-end bass and treble, and more limit/compression; sounded even worse than my hand-rolled shit! I guess for the totally newb, it'd...

Re: SoCal Amp repair?

Howdy y'all, need to get the PRS Sonzera 20 I bought serviced as there's a bloody great hole in one of the tubes - I can see it from the back of the amp. It's also humming like a fridge which is probably why the guy was selling for 400 bucks instead of the normal 500-550ish. Overall it's a nice amp...

Re: AI Mastering

I’m gonna be in the same boat shortly, so keen to hear everyone else’s thoughts. I used Landr for the Loveland Frogman Doog EP years back, and it was fairly underwhelming, although cheap and good enough an improvement that I went with it. I’m sure by now, using actual AI (rather than a set of preset...

Re: Always on pedals, a popular option?

Maybe! The Mooer BD-2 copy I've got has a switchable mode (which I guess is the Keeley mod), but it feels more like a mid bump than anything; it doesn't really change the core sound, at least not with the low-medium gain settings I use. Maybe that's part of it.

Re: Always on pedals, a popular option?

The digitech seems to be a bit of a sleeper pedal, never tried one but used to have a blues driver which was nice but I used to get annoyed with its splatty decay. Might have to keep a lookout for one. It's not for everyone , but honestly, the 2-band EQ is a game changer, so you can get a super mid...

Re: Always on pedals, a popular option?

Have been using a Digitech 'SCREAMIN' BLUES' Blues Driver copy- but-better as my base 'clean' tone in Doghands, and using a Boss LS-2 to stick a Wampler fuzz after it to enjoy the spiky times of how they interact - GREAT feedback. That said, may move to just using the LS-2 to toggle between them, as...
