Appropriate for small girl?

My small (4'3") 10 year old is starting to play acoustic (Taylor Swift, natch). I want to get her an electric to help her explore, musically. My first thought was a Squier Mini. But then I realized I could get her a Duo-Sonic or Mustang, tune it down a half step and pop a capo on the 1st fret t...

Discovery: Neck Check works

Thought I'd share a recent discovery. I bought a Neck Check notched straightedge for a project -- it's the standard one that has full Fender scale on one side and Gibson scale on the other. Out of curiosity, I tried it on a Mustang, and it works perfectly -- I just used the Fender side and slipped t...

It's a Mexican one. I actually got it for my son, who's 12 and learning, but it plays so nicely that I find myself grabbing it, too. Not messing with it, apart from the bridge swap.

The project of the moment is a Squier Mini I'm refurbing for my 8 year old daughter, who's learning, too...

Hipshot bridge drops in

I don't know how useful this information is, but I thought I'd share it. I have a Mustang Pawnshop Special, it's the hardtail with two humbuckers. I didn't like the bridge, so I cruised eBay for a while and found a Hipshot hardtail bridge. Took off the stock bridge and darned if the Hipshot didn't l...

You're looking for a Mustang Pawn Shop Special, made in Japan (2011) and Mexico (2012). Hardtail. Two humbuckers, each with coil split switches, a three way, master volume and master tone.

You could also search for any of the Cobains, either the Stang or the Jag. I think they're all hardtails, too.
