I used a £20 1/4" router and a 'pattern bit' (with bearing) BUT you WILL get tearout and you WILL fuck up your template! I've been experimenting with the guide (like Fran says to use) that came with my router. It takes a little more thought with the templates cos the guide is a few mm from the...

Yeah, them screws are a bit too long. The original screws were 11mm long. They seemed way too short. So I got some 18mm long. Then I had the idea of forcing the neck to sit better my pulling on the headstock. It worked brilliantly. The neck pocket was tight anyway, but with paint and laquer made it ...

The bridge design (if you can call it that) is what really ruins these things for me. I'm thinking a Bronco bridge could really dress this thing up. It would require a revision of the pickguard design but judging from your Jag-Stang project, I know you're good for it. The bridge is just a gibson-st...

Make it a 12-string! What color are you planning to finish it? Thought about 12 string, there is enough room on the headstock for 12 tuners. But I have never played 12 string, so i'm not sure if I would like it? And aren't 12 string necks a bit wider? Still not sure about colour. Either Fender Burg...

I was going to say it's not too late to do something that isn't ugly if you haven't. Your jag-stang looks great, I like it more than the original. Perhaps you can make this look good too, but you're not giving yourself a fair starting point. I did consider making a hollow bodied Starcaster style th...

Yes, but only the template for the body. And I have a few parts.

I need to get the bridge before I cut the neck pocket though.

my venus style guitar

I've been planning this for a while... I'm shamelessly ripping off a Vista Venus. It looks like this if you've never seen one. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g45/greasermonkeyinprint/Guitars/2507200732019831.jpg I already had the ash body blank, and bought a paddle-head neck. Then I traced a pic ...

I have one of these: http://www.wesleyguitars.co.uk/fullView.asp?sf=y&nb=1&id=%27244309473%27&img=http://images.marketworks.com/hi/56/56410/bja100pmbl_gallery.jpg Very similar to the SX but with humbuckers. I don't like it cos I can't get it to make any decent sounds. But in it's defence...

On the subject of building. List of costs; Neck £25 Body blank £30 Pickup £13 Pickguard £11 Other stuff £35ish Paint £50 I spent £20 on a router. £8 on a sander. £6 on some drill bits and about £30 on router bits. But I can re-use these tools on other projects, so it's money well spent.

Before I made this, I put together a Telecaster kit. And the saddle adjuster screws on that are on a steeper angle than on this! I would NOT reccomend buying a kit guitar. I learned from, it but the neck is crap and I changed the pickups... For the same money you could get a squier and mod that. I d...

I considered spacing the bridge, but decided that having the saddle adjuster screws on a stupid angle was better. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g45/greasermonkeyinprint/Guitars/HPIM0210.jpg I got some longer grub screws for free! (Too long) And I read somewhere about steep break angles making be...

I set the innotation and the action, I haven't needed to adjust the truss rod. So I now have a fully functioning instrument. I had doubts about having just a neck pickup, but I like it. I've got a bright switch on my amp so I can vary the tones more. I'm already planning my next build. When I bought...

Quick update: I sorted out the quietness, i got some shielding paint on the jack socket (don't ask!). Strung it up with Ernie Ball 12s. The Innotation is off and the bridge is on a fucking stupid angle and the grub screws are too short, but is kinda playable. Might have to space the bridge up a bit?...

Try this for an "A" chord: Fret the D-string with your middle finger, the G with your index, and the B with your ring. It's a little awkward at first and you have to be careful that you don't push the G sharp, but it's the best fingering for getting all the notes clearly in my experience....

The pickup is a kind of hotrail type thing. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g45/greasermonkeyinprint/Guitars/HPIM0203.jpg So near and yet so far... I started stringing it up, couldn't get a decent action without jacking the bridge up. So I'll need at least longer grub screws for that. Then I decid...

Well I'm almost there. I've done the electrics, had to re do the route a bit to clear the GIANT orange cap. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g45/greasermonkeyinprint/Guitars/HPIM0200-1.jpg The paint isn't perfect. That's like cutting off your legs cos you're a bit overweight!

Anyway there's a nasty crack coming from one of the holes in the headstock. It might make the whole lot scrap! Risky!
