kick drums, put 1 mic in the usual spot, and another inside the shell, facing the wood.
listen to "pull me from the floor" here http://www.myspace.com/thepinwheels
big bassy sound w/o too much ringing.

less is more.
basic drumkit ?
you don't need more than three or four mics, max !
we're about to record a diy demo with lustrous (got a bunch of recording equipment) and our drummer wants tons and tons of mics for his kit, close-mic'd drums sound lame, let that kit breathe.
i can't give any other tips because i'm just a noob when it comes to diy recording, obviously. |

i like the 2 on the kick as mentioned. otherwise, one between snare and high hat, and two overheads. if getting fancy, a mic behind the drummer about 5 feet, and an under snare could be alright. i don't like triggering drums.
guitar, i like one on the speaker, and one a couple feet back.
on bass, one mic, and one direct line in.
on vocals, i just stick my dick in their mouth. _________________

A good recording is shit without a Good performance. The players make the recordings. Look at some of the old 50's shit when everything was recorded at the same time. Talent. |

yeah, it's def a plus if you can record everything at the same time, way more spontaneous, more energy and all that.. |

Whilst Id say that that's true most of the time, I think there are definitely times when it's better not to. _________________ Shabba. |

I meant more of the "take" or performance of the musician, but playing together live can rawk hard too. |
