I use it when I'm recording a demo or something, I generally replace it with mic'ed guitar eventually.
I find it useful when it's late at night or something and I wanna record. I never use it on something final though. _________________ http://alligatr.co.uk/ |

I'll use amplitube or sansamp for a doubled part. |

I mess about with Guitar Rig2 when I want to rock out in Silence at home. I don't use it for recording because I much prefer to just mic my amps.
You can get some good sounds, but some Amps sound better than others - for example in my Guitar Rig2 version I would divide it like this:
Sounds good, realistic etc: Fender Twin Reverb, Marshall JCM800, Marshall Plexi, Ampeg SVT bass Head
Sounds wank, really horrible: Fender Bassman, Vox AC30, Mesa Dual Recifier |

do you find simulation greatly inferior to properly mic'ed amp? _________________ i like chocolate, i like fudge

Never sounds as good to my ears. Plus my amp has my sound, I've never been able to really get the sound of my TT or the champ nailed in guitar rig. _________________ http://alligatr.co.uk/ |

I sometimes use an old Johnson J Station as it has a fairly decent Twin and AC30 as well as some convincing Marshalls...
I've tried the the amp simulator on Logic, but it's surprisingly bad for such a high quality app.... _________________ http://vivadeluxxe.bandcamp.com/ |

thanks! i've already d/l'd your impulses just didnt have the time to check them out properly.
i personally like amp simulation when it's done great. if quality simulation is used properly, it can sound as nice as mic'd amp. of course, it can not sound EXACTLY (however, try to tell if you see the difference of some...), but it can sound really great. of course, if you have possibility to use real amp and mic it, there's no point using simulation if you wish to get exact sound of your amp. but if you're not stuck with "your" sound, i think simulation is the way to go... digital signal processing can give results that are impossible to get from analogue circuits. and it's also very versatile and not cumbersome to tweak around. sure, this isn't needed if you're after classic/vintage sound, because it is all analogue.. but if you're not?
as i've already told somewhere on the boards, i'm a software developer by profession. recently i've been messing around with digital sound processing. i was curious how hard is it to simulate amp and a speaker. it turns out that it's not, at least when judged by my ear. i will try to demo some of that shit. and i think i am going to experiment a while to get some crazy, impossible for analogue stuff sounds. don't get me wrong... i like analogue. i am just curious what else can you do _________________ i like chocolate, i like fudge

I use Line6's gearbox plugin and i love it actually. the diversity of tones is quite nice. and for as easy as it is to dial in an amp and cab combo, i can't complain. if i was going into a studio to record though, i'd want real amps. |

I use Line6 Gearbox as well and really like it. Obviously not as good as mic + amp but for recording demos its nice and easy. I recently bought some mics and started using the preamps in Gearbox for them, works really well. |

Here's the way to load an impulse in Voxengo Boogex.
Take the highpass filter or whatever on the far right of the EQ (green?) and pull it all the way left to kill Voxengo's shitty preamp shit.
Then turn DRY PRE CAB down thar on the left to 0.0dB.
Keep DRY POST CAB all the way off, shit's shit.
if you don't apply these tipz, your gonna hear SHIT. |

Yeah, I've been really stoked on my purchase. I got a great deal on the upgraded plugin (Gold Bundle) as well so I feel like i got a really great deal. I actually have an extra Line6 interface I can bro-deal to someone if they want it. It's the smallest one they made. Just a single guitar input. But it'll work with the gearbox software no problems. |

i took the guitar amp out of the loop.
EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!
i could have just bought a guitar program for the computer but its much more organic digital this way = im a nerd with wires.
point is i got fucking wireless headphones which is going to make playing diablo II and guitar at the same time so much more better morest _________________

Next step: by one of those pointers, attatch it to your headstock and make it so it clicks whenever you play a chord.
Killin' baal with the riffs. (If you play LoD that is). _________________ http://alligatr.co.uk/ |
