So i got a digital reference Dr-gx1 microphone for christmas.
My friend and i were jamming and he wanted to sing, worked fine with the old squier 10 watt amp that was kicking around.
But now im trying to record some gear demos, and it is barely picking up anything.
I know it is passive, but when i use my zoom g2 (output is *supposed* to be line level) as a preamp it is just barely at audible through my headphones.
I have been using the "put the amp as loud as possible for recording" logic, and even with my peavy bandit 112 on 6-7 the digital VU meter on my tascam-portastudio is barely at 3 or 4. (estimate, the meter is vertical)
I am getting a preamp soon, but i was wondering if this is something i should have expected with a passive dynamic microphone. |

Raise the input gain (probably labeled 'trim') on the portastudio for the channel you're running into more towards "mic" than "line" until it's loud enough but not going into the red on the meter. You could just plug the mic straight into the deck too and leave the G2 out of it. _________________

using the trim on the portastudio without the g2, i can get only about halfway on the meter. |
