An example of taxes importing from abroad...

Import charges on $404.77 = $108.79

I'd be mad to buy it that way when Thomann.de sell them so much cheaper.

That's crazy.

When are homeland security gonna get on this "2-piece King Size Snickers" horseshit that showed up a couple years ago? I've started dropping one of them on the floor of my car every time.

Le sigh... as an American living abroad (on an island nation with hefty import taxes), I perhaps feel your pain more than anyone else here. While guitar browsing online, I constantly find myself muttering, how much is that going to cost in total?! But I could get it for xx less at home!!

I have to keep reminding myself that I am, in fact, very far from home.

My only consolation is that Taiwan's importation laws are somewhat lax. I have received guitar parts from abroad through the mail duty free. Rumor has it that if a forumite were to send me a guitar "neck off" and marked as guitar parts, the package might slip through customs untaxed. However, forget about an assembled guitar shipped from a reseller or proper eBayer. I'll be paying through the nose. Worse yet, sometimes large packages here are held at customs for no apparent reason for weeks on end...
